Laser Skin Rejuvenation
What is it / What is it used to treat?
Lasers are an effective way of reducing the visible signs of aging and sun damage such as fine lines, broken capillaries and age spots. How does it work?
A small laser light source is directed at the skin’s surface. Rejuvenation is achieved by the laser’s light stimulating cells called ‘Fibroblasts’ in the epidermis causing them to produce more collagen – the skin’s natural scaffolding substance. The laser can also be used during this treatment to target any broken capillaries and age spots. How is it performed?
Your trained technician will perform a pre-treatment skin typing analysis at your consultation visit. If the outcome of the skin type analysis is satisfactory, you will be able to commence your treatment at the same visit..However, if the outcome of the skin typing analysis raises concerns or places you in a ‘higher-risk’ patient category, you technician will perform a ‘spot test’ to check your tolerance of the laser therapy and you will be requested to delay commencing your treatment until the outcome of the ‘spot test’ can be assessed.
The treatment itself is relatively painless and there is no need for anaesthetic cream. Your technician will keep you fully informed of what is happening throughout the treatment.
Do I need to take any precautions before having the treatment?
You must avoid any kind of tanning for at least four weeks before the procedure. This includes sunbathing, tanning booths and applying fake tan.Aftercare
It is very important that the area treated is protected from sun exposure for at least four weeks following treatment. You may experience some redness of the skin this will settle within one or two days of the treatment. Any treated pigmentation will appear darker peeling away after a few days. You must protect the treated area with the recommended sunscreen at all times. It is very rare to experience post treatment discomfort, however any mild discomfort can be alleviated by regular application of ice packs and Aloe Vera gel.
