Semi-Permanent Make-Up

What is it?

Semi-permanent make-up is the art of applying a natural looking, long lasting make-up by placing pigment into the dermis layer of the skin.

What is it used to treat?

This treatment is used to enhance natural features like the lip line giving lips definition, it can also be applied to the upper or lower lash line to give a natural eyeliner perfect to keep you looking good on the beach. Semi-permanent make-up is fantastic at replacing hairs in sparse eyebrows by replicating the missing hairs and giving you more symmetrical eyebrows to frame your eyes.

How does it work?

The pigment is introduced to the skins dermal layer by using tiny needles, once the pigment is implanted the skin will heal and the colour will soften. After the first application it is possible to loose around 70% of the colour so a top up is usually required four weeks later to complete the treatment.

How is it performed?

After applying local anaesthetic the technician will choose the appropriate pigment and agree it with the client. Then a make-up pencil is used to draw on the eyebrows or lips [not necessary for eyeliner] once a shape is agreed the technician proceeds to work over the template.
The pigment is introduced into the skin via tiny needles once the area has been passed over a secondary anaesthetic is applied making the second pass even more comfortable.  When the treatment is complete Vaseline is applied [eyebrows and lips only] to keep the area protected and help it to heal.

How long will it last?

Semi-permanent make-up can last up to two years although to maintain the effect a top up can be done once a year.

What are the risks?

We use pigments that have been specially developed for semi-permanent make-up making it safe.

How has Semi-permanent make-up changed?

When Semi-permanent make-up first became popular the colours were very limited so you could end up with a false un-natural look. We now have a wide range of pigment colours which can even be blended together to give us exactly what we want.

We always draw the lip line and eyebrows on you so that you can see how it will look and together we can make any necessary adjustments so you are guaranteed to be happy with the results.

The reason we don’t draw the eyeliner on is because it is impossible to draw amongst the lashes as subtle as we apply the semi-permanent make-up.

The technique used to apply the pigment has improved dramatically; we are now able to recreate individual hairs in the eyebrows rather than a solid block of colour.

Are there any special pre-cautions before undergoing the treatment?

It is rare for patients to get a bruise from this sort of treatment but the risk can be minimised by observing some simple standard pre-cautions, such as limiting alcohol the evening before treatment and not taking analgesics containing aspirin the day before treatment. If you are prone to bruising you may benefit from taking Arnica tablets for 1 week prior to treatment.

Aftercare

Please be aware;
You may experience whitening around the area directly after treatment this is due to the anaesthetic. You may also notice a small degree of ‘redness’ in the area treated this will subside.
The area can feel sore, hot and will be swollen this will go in a couple of days as it heals.
During the healing period the area can itch, please avoid touching it.
The colour can look darker and wider than when it is healed.
You must not rub the area for 4 days following a treatment.
You must not pick at any scabs or flaking skin as this could remove pigment, allow it to shed naturally.
Do not use any type of make-up, cleanser or soap on the area for four days.
Do not have hot showers, saunas, Jacuzzi or swim for 7-10 days.
Avoid doing any exercise for that day.
Do not have any type of facial for two weeks.
Never use Retin A or glycolic products over the treated area.
Never have peels or microdermabrasion over this area because this may remove pigment.
You can apply cold packs for ten minutes every hour if necessary.
Vaseline should be lightly applied to the lips and eyebrows for four days after treatment. For anyone having eyeliner this does not apply because eyes are self cleaning [salt water].

You may wish to bear this in mind when planning your diary around  the treatment.
